Which First Aid or CPR Course Do I Need in BC?

Choosing the right First Aid or CPR course can feel confusing — especially when there are multiple options and workplace requirements to consider. If you’re unsure which course you need, you’re not alone. This guide breaks it down clearly so you can register with confidence.

Start With Your Requirement

The best place to begin is identifying why you need the certification:

  • Workplace or employer requirement

  • School or program prerequisite

  • Healthcare or regulated profession

  • Personal knowledge or preparedness

Once you know the purpose, choosing the right course becomes much easier.

Emergency First Aid vs. Standard First Aid

Emergency First Aid is a shorter, entry-level course focused on essential life-saving skills.
It’s often required for lower-risk workplaces or individuals seeking basic certification.

Standard First Aid is more comprehensive and includes additional topics such as injury management and medical emergencies.
This course is commonly required for:

  • Workplaces

  • Educators

  • Regulated professions

  • WorkSafe-recognized roles

If you’re unsure which one you need, Standard First Aid is usually the safer choice.

CPR Level A vs. CPR Level C

Both CPR courses include AED training, but they differ in scope:

  • CPR Level A covers adult CPR only

  • CPR Level C covers adult, child, and infant CPR

If you work with children, families, or healthcare settings, CPR C is typically required.

What About BLS?

Basic Life Support (BLS) is designed specifically for healthcare and regulated professionals.
It focuses on high-performance CPR, airway management, and team-based response skills.

If you’re a nurse, medical student, paramedic, or healthcare provider, BLS is likely the course you need.

Still Not Sure?

That’s completely normal. If your workplace, school, or program hasn’t clearly specified a course, the Revive team is happy to help you choose before you book.
